Wehrheim (vah). Early on Saturday evening, the handball players of the newly promoted SG Wehrheim/Obernhain were unable to overcome their nervousness in time and collect their first points against ESG Niederhofheim/Sulzbach in their first game in the district league. The end result was a 14:20 (5:12) defeat.

The women of SG Wehrheim/Obernhain started their first game in the new league very nervously. With a 3-2-1 defense, the hosts only kept up with the guests until the score was 3:3 (6th minute by Günther). Due to technical errors in attack and a lack of coordination in defense, the guests pulled ahead goal by goal. After 15 minutes without a goal, Nina Wagner scored the long-awaited goal to make it 4:9 (21st minute). The women of SGWO went into the dressing room with a 5:12 halftime deficit.

Mortgage too big

Coach Marco Kohler had clear words for the first half of the game: “The girls were very nervous. The simplest passes didn’t work and then you go into halftime with a deficit of minus six.”

After the break, a different host team emerged: A solid defense and the elimination of technical errors enabled the Wehrheim team to reduce the guests’ lead to four goals in the 44th minute through Leonie Löw (12:16). However, two clear goal chances that were not converted meant that the SGWO lost the lead again. Marco Kohler summed up: “In the end, the opponent was actually exhausted. But we didn’t manage to take advantage of that. Overall, we simply missed too many free chances.” In the 57th minute, Celine Zunke reduced the score to 14:20. Kohler: “What was particularly good today was the team performance. The girls never gave up and tried to avoid defeat until the end.” After the upcoming weekend without a game, the SGWO will be visiting Eintr. Frankfurt. Kick-off is on September 29th at 6 p.m.
