The Bund Deutscher Kriminalbeamter (BDK) in Hamburg calls for better masks for the police. The BDK has now purchased its own mouth and nose protection for the 1,500 police officers.
Jan Reinecke from the BDK speaks of cheap masks that have been received. That is why the BDK has now ordered 2,000 masks at its own expense for around 9,000 euros. “It was important to us that the glasses didn’t fog up from the inside. A filter that is incorporated into the mask was also relatively important to us.”
“Risk of being strangled”
Masks that have been received so far have to be tied behind the head – and are therefore dangerous for the officers. “The criminal police are also in contact with problematic citizens. And it is dangerous to have such masks on and thus run the risk of being strangled with them.”

The police press office said that there had been no criticism of the existing masks so far. Police spokeswoman Sandra Levgrün explained that there are so many different models in the police force that every colleague can choose the right mask.
