Tony Fernandes Predictions Kertajati Airport Can Be Like Kualanamu

Jakarta

Kertajati Airport in Majalengka, West Java, there was a mention of suspended animation. Since its establishment in 2018, this international airport has been empty of passengers. Finally, Kertajati relies on Umrah flights to continue serving passengers.

Even so, AirAsia Indonesia said it would open flights to Kertajati Airport. The big boss of AirAsia, who is also the CEO of Capital A, Tony Fernandes optimistic that Kertajati Airport will attract many passengers.

Especially after the Cisumdawu Highway as the main access to the airport was completed.

“We are optimistic for Kertajati, especially since the (Cisumdawu) toll road is about to be completed,” said Tony during a meeting with media crew at the Dharmawangsa Hotel, South Jakarta, Thursday (26/1/2023).

Tony predicts that the fate of Kertajati Airport will be like Kualanamu Airport in North Sumatra. At its inception, Kualanamu was also quiet and had many complaints because of its location which was very far from the city of Medan.

However, because the access is good, it only takes time for Kualanamu Airport to become as busy and successful as it is now. This can also happen in Kualanamu.

“I believe like Kualanamu Airport, it used to be said to be very far, very far from the city of Medan, but now it has become very successful,” said Tony.

According to him, with qualified airport access and also ‘marketing’ assistance from all stakeholders Kertajati Airport can be crowded.

“Back again, it’s all a matter of marketing and as long as the access is good,” said Tony.
