SBU suspended the work of the company.
“The volume of buried waste was 500 tons per month. The company worked in this way for several years, increasing the amount of production. Its activities could lead to significant environmental pollution and create an ecological disaster,” said Denis Zakabluk, speaker of the SBU in Vinnitsa region.
Substance toxins were waste products of glycerin purification.
Local officials stated that the enterprise is operating legally, and there is a permit for the disposal of chemicals.
The production itself is located in the city of Kalinovka. Access to the plant is limited.
The SBU investigators, having seized the documents from the plant, found out that the glycerin was supplied to Ukraine by a Russian company, and the already refined one was taking it back.
“According to the agreement with the Russian company, technical raw materials, glycerin, arrived in Ukraine, which was processed here, the waste must be disposed of properly,” said Denis Zakabluk, speaker of the SBU in Vinnitsa region.
The SBU has already opened production under the article ecocide. The management may even face criminal liability.
