to welcome something bright, something new,
this night when all are good –
the liar, the thief, the scoundrel even,
that night when the enemy becomes a brother –
same batch, same color,
tonight calm, at least tonight
let’s forget every bad memory.
Let’s forget this night at least
that now Bulgaria is on its knees,
let’s forget being pitiful
because we have so few left
let’s forget for a minute
taxes and accounts, business and currency,
robberies, murders, mutts, mobsters,
elections and leaders – false patriots,
envy and hatred, hunger and poverty…
Let’s light the candle in ourselves!
That night when – pregnant – the earth
will soon give birth to a new date
let us whisper this blessing:
less hate more love!
Let us say to each other in this bright night:
“Bulgaria as a whole… still has strength!”
