Tonight press conference: hopefully this is allowed again from June 5th

Actually, the next step of the opening plan was only planned for June 9. But because the infection figures are going well, relaxation is already being done on 5 June. That was announced by outgoing corona minister Hugo de Jonge earlier this week On.

Step 3 opening plan

This concerns step 3 in the cabinet’s opening plan. According to this step, four visitors can again be received at home, cultural institutions such as museums will reopen and more opportunities will be made for indoor sports.

Cafés

Restaurants are also allowed to open their doors again. Justice Minister Ferd Grapperhaus said this week after the Security Council with mayors that, as far as he is concerned, cafes can also open on June 5. According to official plans, the pubs would not be allowed to open until later.

It is still unclear whether the government will decide to do so. There must also be clarity about the conditions for restaurants that want to open their doors again.

The press conference can be followed live tonight from 7 p.m. via our website and on RTL 4.

Some ‘elaboration issues’

The cabinet will decide later today what exactly is allowed again from June 5th. De Jonge says that there are a number of ‘elaboration issues’ that the government must decide on.

Insiders reported that the catering establishments may be open until 10 p.m. Now terraces are open until 20:00 at the latest. The ban on the sale of alcohol, including in supermarkets, also applies from that time. One point for attention would be enforceability in practice.

Infection rates are falling

Step 2 of the opening plan went on May 19th. Since then, zoos, open-air museums and gyms have reopened and the terraces have extended opening hours. The infection rates are falling rapidly due to vaccination. The occupancy rate in hospitals and intensive care is therefore also declining.
