Tonight press conference about tightening up corona rules: catering industry almost certainly completely closed

Just like during the first corona wave, the catering industry will close again and drink sales in the evenings will be restricted. These are two measures that will most likely be announced tonight by Prime Minister Rutte and Minister De Jonge (Public Health) during a new press conference. With the measures, the increasing number of corona infections must be brought to a halt.

The closure of the catering industry and the ban on selling alcohol after 8 p.m. must in any case apply for two weeks, according to the WE. In those two weeks, it must become clear whether the strongly increasing number of new infections is leveling off or even decreasing.

Closure easier to maintain

The new measures were discussed last night in the Security Council with the chairs of the Security Regions, which also includes Mayor Halsema. During that deliberation a scenario would also have been discussed in which catering establishments would have to close their doors from 6 p.m. But the mayors of large cities in particular would have asked for a total closure, because it is easier to enforce.

Yesterday it also leaked that the cabinet wants to suspend team sports for adults. Traveling by public transport will soon be allowed only if it is strictly necessary and it is advised not to receive more than three guests at home per day. All new measures must contribute to limiting contact between people as much as possible and preventing the corona virus from spreading further.

The press conference of Prime Minister Rutte and Minister De Jonge is scheduled for 19:00 tonight.
