All in all, 2,191 minutes — without the commercial breaks — needed Erik Van Looy to select the three best candidates of the nineteenth season of ‘The smartest person in the world’ in 39 episodes. A first for the program: two Dutchmen, singer Merol and presenter Arjen Lubach, have to compete in the grand final against intensivist and one of the corona faces Geert Meyfroidt. Merol was the best player of the lot, with 9 entries and 2 wins. Meyfroidt was especially the revelation in the final weeks. He won there six times in a row. A feat that no one has done before. Between them in Arjen Lubach, sympathetic lad, a barrel full of hidden nerves and ten years ago already proclaimed ‘The smartest person in the world’ in the Netherlands. But that differs from the Flemish original and it was also a different time.
