Singer Tonho Matéria will perform this Wednesday (22) at Praça Central do Salvador Shopping, free of charge, starting at 7pm. The attraction is part of the Salvador Festival, which will have until the end of this month a program to promote culture, beauty and inventiveness of black talent in the city.
Tonho started in music around 15 years old and in 1983 he started his professional career, in the Bloco Afro Ébano, in the neighborhood of Cidade Nova. He went through groups such as Amante do Reggae, Filhos do Congo, and Oyá Ilê, in addition to samba groups from June. But one of his biggest highlights was in Olodum, where he was the main singer until 1989, when he released his first solo work. It was on his second album that he recorded his biggest hit, Melô do Tchaco, in 1994.
The Salvador Festival is a partnership between the mall and the Salvador Capital Afro Movement, an initiative of the Municipality of Salvador. The event brings together different languages, such as music, dance, aesthetics and conversation circles. On Thursday (23), also at 7 pm, there will be a chat with the teacher, activist and founder of the Afro-Brazilian School of Brazil, Bárbara Carine. On Saturday, the 25th, there will be a Kids Braids Workshop, starting at 3 pm.
