– Four suspects have been prosecuted in the case of gang rape and murder against a’untouchable’ woman who has infested India over the past few months.

According to local media such as Times of India on the 19th, the CBI filed a complaint on the 18th in a special court in Hatras, Uttar Pradesh.

The four accused are accused of raping, assaulting, and murdering a 19-year-old woman from Dalit in the Hartrath district in September. The suspects belonged to a higher caste than this woman.

According to the complaint, the woman who was raped near her house was treated but died later the same month. The victim was found to have been severely assaulted, including cut off her tongue and injured spine.

As the news spread, protests took place in various places to end sexual violence and claim equal rights to Dalit. In the midst of this, Uttar Pradesh’s state police, contrary to the original announcement, “the victim appears to have not been raped as a result of a forensic investigation,” and raised public resentment.

On the Internet, hashtags such as “HathrasTruthExposed” and “HathrasHorror” named after the area where the incident occurred were followed.

Subsequently, in October, another woman from Dalit died after gang rape in the same state, and the protests intensified.

Dalit is the lowest level of the Hindu caste system, so it cannot be included in the classification of traditional castes such as Brahman (cleric), Kshatria (military), Baisha (commoner), and Sudra (heavenly).

Although the Indian Constitution prohibits discrimination by caste, the damages related to caste still remain deeply rooted.
