For the first time in its history, Tondela will play in the Taça de Portugal final.
The surprise guest. Despite his relegation status in the league, Tondela managed, this Wednesday evening, to make this 2021/22 season unforgettable for its history. Indeed, after having notably successively eliminated Leixões, Estoril and Rio Ave, the Yellows and Greens managed to get rid of another surprise, CD Mafra, current 10th in II Liga, in the semi-finals of the Taça de Portugal. But if the score over the two games as a whole may seem particularly heavy (4-1), Tondela however suffered to grab the first final in its history. After a clear and flawless victory in the first leg (3-0), the first division club was largely dominated in the second leg, and could have experienced immense disappointment without the talent of its Senegalese goalkeeper. In suffering, the club which has experienced a meteoric rise over the last fifteen years has thus definitively marked its name in the history of Portuguese football with this first participation in the final, at the Jamor. For the occasion, the men of Nuno Campos will face the winner of the double-header between Porto and Sporting, whose second leg will be played this Thursday at the Estadio do Dragão. In the first leg, FC Porto won in Lisbon (1-2), and will therefore start this clash with a serious advantage.
