Tomorrow will start showing the feature film “Coy”, which tells the story of the death of a Russian rock legend on the Talsi highway

The film is a co-production of Russia (“Rock Films”) and Latvia (“Mistrus Media”), bringing together such famous actors as Jevgenijs Ciganovs, Nadezhda Kaleganova, Paulina Andrejeva, Mariana Spivaka, Igors Verņiks and Iļja Deļs, Inga Tropa and Gūrs Skrasts. Grasbergs.

“Our plan was not to make a biographical film, but almost a detective story. There is no point in showing what Coy has done – everyone already knows his songs. It is much more interesting to dwell on thoughts about things that will last forever and that even death cannot destroy, ”said Aleksejs Učiteļs, starting filming in Latvia, at the same time expressing gratitude to the entire Latvian filming team that participated in the making of the film.

The film is made as a classic road film in form, but the story is told from the point of view of the driver Pavel, who was involved in the accident. Pāvels knows nothing about the famous musician and learns about Coju from the stories and through the relations between Viktor’s relatives who came to Latvia to identify the deceased after the accident.

The film “Cojs” is in a sense a unique co-production film, because the plot of the film is most directly related to Latvia. Coy was a temperature gauge of change, whose sudden death in Latvia raised a number of conspiracy theories. We wanted the film to be available to Latvian viewers this year, 30 years after the death of Viktor Coy. Therefore, at the same time as the premiere in Russia, we are starting to show it in the types of film demonstrations currently available in Latvia, ”says the film’s co-producer Inese Boka-Grūbe.

The film was shot in the summer of 2019 in Riga, Tukums, Kuldiga and Engure. The co-production of the Latvian side was led by Inese Boka-Grūbe and Gints Grūbe. Starring Latvian actors Artūrs Skrastiņš, Inga Tropa and Gundars Grasbergs. Film artist Aivars Zhukovskis, executive producer Daiga Livčāne and many Latvian film professionals worked together with Russian artists on the visual story of the film.
