Tomorrow a Super Rare Comet Decorates the Sky of Indonesia, Passes Once Every 50,000 Years

National Research and Innovation Agency or BRIN said that Indonesian citizens would be able to enjoy comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) will cross the sky on February 1, 2023 tomorrow.

This comet is super rare because it can be enjoyed once every 50,000 years. This means that this comet last passed near Earth when our ancestors were still using stone tools.

“This comet completes its orbit around the Sun once every 50,000 years. For this reason, humans can see it passing closest to Earth only once in a lifetime,” BRIN explained on Twitter as witnessed Tuesday (31/1/2023).

BRIN estimates that comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) will be visible in Indonesia tomorrow from 18.30 WIB to February 2 at 02.30 WIB in the morning.

However, some astronomers say super rare comets This can also be enjoyed in Indonesia until the 4th of February.

Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) can be observed from a place free from light pollution, with a view direction free from obstructions, and the local weather conditions are quite sunny.

But for people who live in areas with moderate to high levels of light pollution or urban areas, it will be difficult to observe this comet with direct eyes, without the aid of a telescope or binoculars.

The public can capture this comet with a green short tail and a long white tail using a DSLR camera, a CCD camera attached to a telescope and connected to a laptop.

Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) was first discovered on March 2, 2022 by two astronomers named Bryce Bolin and Frank Masci. They discovered this comet using the telescope at the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZFT).
