Thanks to its victory against Vandoeuvre-Nancy in five rounds and the defeat of Béziers against RC Cannes this Saturday, Mulhouse moved to the top of the Women’s League A.
Mulhouse had a golden opportunity … and did not let it pass. While Béziers fell on his floor against RC Cannes this Saturday, the Alsatians needed a victory to regain first place in the championship. But, against Vandoeuvre-Nancy, the meeting did not start at best for the protected François Salvagni. It is, in fact, the Lorraines who took the best start to lead by seven points. It was then that the teammates of Ivana Vanjak (24 points) raised the tone and signed an 8-0 to return in front of a length. However, it was the players from Vandoeuvre-Nancy who finished this round better. Vexed by this start of the match, the Mulhousiennes were able to finish the second set in cannonball, with a new 8-0 which allowed them to return to a round everywhere.
Mulhouse in the snatch
However, Vandoeuvre-Nancy still had some under the sole. Indeed, McKenzie Jacobson’s teammates (17 points) dominated from first to last point in the third round to regain the advantage in this meeting and force Mulhouse to go to the tiebreak to win. This is what the Alsatians did with difficulty. Indeed, the two teams surrendered blow for blow throughout the fourth round but it was the ASPTT players who were able to line up the last two points to take their opponents to a final round. A tiebreak started strong by Mulhouse with the first four points then eight of the first ten. A six-length mattress that has wavered for a while but it is the Alsatians who win at the end of the suspense (23-25, 25-14, 19-25, 25-22, 15-8) and take the lead of the championship one point ahead of Béziers. For Vandoeuvre-Nancy, this third consecutive defeat places them in eighth place.
