VIVA – Tomatoes can grow in Mars, according to the scientists’ findings. This idea means that humans will still be able to enjoy ketchup on the Red Planet.
Experts from Florida’s Aldrin Space Institute, United States (US) claimed to be able to grow tomatoes in a biodome that simulates the harsh Martian environment.
The two-year experiment sponsored by the Heinz sauce factory fuels hopes that humans will be able to explore other galaxies, as quoted VIVA Tekno from site The Sun, Friday, November 12, 2021.
Andrew Palmer says if humans are to sustain life on other planets then they must be able to understand how to grow and produce food in the long term using available tools.
“The soil we use on Earth is full of microbes and fungi that make it easier to grow. The regolith (soil) of Mars has a very different composition,” he said.
Achieving quality yields into Heinz tomato sauce is a dream result. This allows humans to see long-term food production beyond Earth.
