About 15,000 people, including many tourists, threw tomatoes at each other during the annual “Tomatina” street fight in the town of Buñol, Spain, AP reports.

Workers dumped 120 tons of overripe tomatoes in trucks on the city’s main street for participants to throw.

After the tomato fight, both the street, the houses, and the participants of the fight were completely soaked and red.

The festival, which takes place on the last Wednesday of August, was inspired by the food fight of local children in 1945. It is significant that the city is located in the tomato growing region.

Media attention in the 1980s turned it into a national and international event, attracting participants from all over the world.

Participants use swimming goggles to protect their eyes and usually dress in T-shirts and shorts.

The participants of the tomato fight have shared their experience in the form of a video on the website “TikTok” – take a look!
