Tomasz Jakubiak, a famous chef, author of culinary books and juror of the “MasterChef Junior” and “MasterChef Teens” programs, openly talked about his struggles with the disease in an honest interview with Dorota Wellman.

Dorota Wellman At the beginning of the interview, she pointed out that many viewers commented on the changes in the appearance of the chef, who had recently lost significant weight. Tomasz Jakubiak confirmed that the changes were caused by the diagnosis of cancer, which he did not talk about publicly for a long time. As he confessed, he did not want to burden his family and also felt ashamed about the diagnosis. Only now did he feel it was time to share his story.
Tomasz Jakubiak told how he discovered his disease. Initially, he performed standard tests – gastroscopy and colonoscopy, which did not reveal any serious problems. Over time, however, the symptoms began to spread to the spine. On the advice of his mother-in-law, Tomasz underwent magnetic resonance imaging.

Currently, Tomasz Jakubiak is undergoing chemotherapy, which was effective up to a point, but now it is necessary to introduce parenteral nutrition to strengthen his body before the next surgery.
During the interview, Dorota Wellman asked him how he endured difficult moments during treatment. Tomasz confessed that the most overwhelming moments are when he comes to subsequent chemotherapy sessions and sees other patients fighting the disease. He did not hide the fact that he was using the help of a psychologist and a psychiatrist during this difficult period. As he emphasized, the disease does not only affect him, but changes the entire family. He mentioned the great support from his wife Anastazja, who was involved in his treatment from the very beginning.
Despite the difficulties, Tomasz is mentally preparing for the future. Filming for the new season is scheduled to start in November.“MasterChef Teens”and he hopes that by then he will be fully ready for work. “Mentally I’m ready”– he assured.
At the end of the interview, Tomasz shared his reflection on the disease. He noticed that every fight begins in the head, and if we give up mentally, the disease will defeat us. Tomasz Jakubiak remains hopeful and believes that thanks to his positive attitude he will beat cancer.
I think this is part of the fight against myself (…) The disease stopped me and opened my eyes. I started to appreciate everything, enjoy the smallest things, money stopped mattering. The lesson I learned about the disease, if I get out of it, I will thank it with all my heart…
