Chicago Bulls guard Tomas Satoransky and a member of the team’s support staff tested positive for COVID-19, according to coach Billy Donovan.
“Obviously he has to quarantine himself and he’s complying with league protocols with that,” Donovan said before Sunday’s home game against the Dallas Mavericks. “We had another support staff member who tested positive, but the guys that were on that trip are still out, they aren’t available tonight, so we pretty much have the same group we had in those three road games. Well, both of us. last games against Washington and Milwaukee “.
Bulls forward Chandler Hutchison also tested positive for the coronavirus and has remained in Washington since the Bulls defeated the Wizards on Thursday.
Lauri Markkanen and Ryan Arcidiacono also remain out while under NBA health and safety protocols.
“That’s going to be the most important thing as we go here, it’s what happens with some of these guys that are not available and in security protocol,” Donovan said.
Satoransky’s positive test adds to the list of COVID-19 incidents within the organization. He previously lost time in December due to the mandatory nine-day quarantine for having close contact with former Bulls forward Noah Vonleh, who tested positive during the preseason.
Guard Garrett Temple also tested positive in November, in addition to four Bulls coaching staff who missed the game against the Indiana Pacers on December 26, but returned for the next game against the Golden State Warriors.
Donovan feels that the recent positive tests are not the result of the boys being irresponsible. In Washington, the players had a team meal as a group at a league-approved restaurant outdoors, but they have continued to take heavy blows.
Cases in Illinois have also been fatal with more than 16,755 deaths reported, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.
“I think our guys have done quite a bit. If there’s been anything they’ve been able to do on these road trips, it’s all been approved by the league when it comes to restaurants or going somewhere. I think our guys have really, I really complied with those things. What I can’t speak to is that we just finished the Christmas season, “Donovan said. “I think for our guys, everyone has been very, very conscientious, but many times, it could come from the family, it could come from outside, people are getting together.
“Some of these kids have kids. Some of these kids … maybe some schools are open, some schools are closed. It’s in a lot of different ways, but I don’t think the kids are being irresponsible in terms of going out and putting themselves in danger. “.
