Wilkinson became a favorite of the audience after the 1997 British comedy “All or Nothing” (The Full Monty), which told about the efforts of six unemployed people to earn a living by starting a career as striptease dancers.
Wilkinson recalled that at the time he had a choice between a leading role in a TV series and All or Nothing, which was made as a low-budget film.
“I called a friend and he said, ‘Pick TV, pick TV!’ But I didn’t follow his advice and the TV series turned out to be crap,” Wilkinson told Britain’s The Guardian newspaper.
On the other hand, the “low-budget” film “All or Nothing” became one of the biggest box-office blockbusters in the history of British cinema and also earned Wilkinson a British Academy Film Award (BAFTA) for best performance in a supporting role.
After this success, Wilkinson also became in demand in Hollywood, where he starred with the brightest Hollywood stars.
He has two Oscar nominations; the latter for his role in the 2007 film Michael Clayton, where Wilkinson starred alongside George Clooney.
“Tom made every project, every actor better. He was the epitome of elegance, and we will all miss him very much,” Clooney mourns the death of his colleague.
Wilkinson has played more than 130 roles in film and TV, in addition to achieving success in a wide variety of genres: historical dramas (Shakespeare in Love, The Girl with a Pearl Earring), thrillers (Michael Clayton, The Ghost Writer), masterpieces of independent cinema (In the Bedroom, Eternal Light of Bright Memories). and comedies (Great Budapest Hotel, Best Exotic Hotel Klingerīte).
