Last week what some movie specialists have called “the rock movie of this generation” was released and surely not in their wildest dreams could they imagine that Scott Ian, Tom Morello, Kirk Hammett and Rob Halford could appear together in a movie ; I tell you.
On April 8, the film “Metal Lords” was released via Netflix, produced by Tom Morello, indirectly starring the great creative bands and icons of heavy metal such as Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Motörhead, Iron Maiden, Pantera, Anthrax, Metallica and many more and that is what has strongly attracted attention in this column.
The tape in formality is carried out by three boys Jaeden Martell, Adrian Greensmith and Isis Hainsworth; the plot is simple, the first two have a metal band attempt and want to participate in a school band contest, but they need a bass player and they start the search. Obviously, during the attempt the whole plot unfolds.
For this film, in addition to the executive production, Morello composed “Machinary of Torment”, the flagship theme, a song that manages to bring together the classic elements of metal and, in turn, is a declaration of principles of the genre, musical and discursive. It is the climax of the movie. The introductory chords of that powerful Morello guitar are heard at the beginning of the tape with images of posters, stickers and photos of all those protagonists in the history of rock and metal: Dio, Danzing, Paradise Lost, Megadeth, Van Halen, Meshuggah, Slipknot, Celtic Frost, Ghost, and a great photo of Morello himself; and all others mentioned above.
The interesting part of the matter and that is mentioned in the same argument is that the history of the characters is quite far from the style of “The Age of Rock” or the “School of Rock”, it is much more accurate in terms of musical concepts. that he manages, takes advantage of the opportunity to undo myths about rock, metal and metalheads themselves and reinforces some others; it grants its real value to many bands that without a doubt deserve a space in the history of the genre and why not in that of cinema.
As a result, the film is a simple plot for the viewer, but full of metal truths that we do not know if it will be able to sow the interest of new generations to approach the genre, because it includes the classic traits of adolescent characters who feel left out. conventional and embrace music as their refuge and flag.
In interviews published by various international media, Morello has mentioned about the film that it is also a reminder of the influence of rock and metal to change people’s lives even though right now it is not at the top of the worldwide popularity charts, an indisputable truth.

This column is not a place for film reviews, but I couldn’t pass up this film, which is undoubtedly one of the best ever made on this genre, with sublime statements about what this music is and what this music has meant to its fans without matter the time; Despite being a light comedy where the protagonists and those who speak to them are teenagers, it transmits the messages of heavy metal in a clear and simple way.
And as if that weren’t enough, the soundtrack is enviable: Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Motörhead, Iron Maiden, Pantera, Anthrax, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Rage Against the Machine, Mastodon and Avenged Sevenfold, among many more.
