In 2007, Tom Helsen received his very first MIA. During the first edition of the music awards he won the prize for ‘Best Pop’, but now the musician thought it was time to do something extra with the statue. He shared that himself on Facebook. “16 years ago I won this MIA. They looked completely different back then: a wooden block with a switch at the bottom and a light in it. I am now selling it to the highest bidder, and donating the money to a charity of our choosing,” he announced.
Less than a day later, Tom has already chosen the winner: “We have a winner,” he writes in the comments. Helsen sold the MIA for 350 euros, and the full amount will be transferred to the charity ‘WONOzo’. The organization supports people with a suspected disability in living and working independently.
