The old Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser has almost as many fans as the Jeep Wrangler or Land Rover Defender. She also enchanted actor Tom Hanks, so much so that he had it adjusted to his ideas for driving on the road and in the wilderness. And now he’s selling it at the Quail Lodge auction, which will be held as part of Monterey Car Week.

There are quite a few adjustments, but none of them touches the iconic look of the old offroad. The biggest is the installation of a 180k 4.3-liter six-cylinder L35 Vortec together with a manual five-speed transmission – both come from the GM concern – under the hood.

The car was built in 1980, but the engine under the hood is from 2000.

Although Idaho has a car brand, according to the auction description, and with such a major modification, it has been inspected by the California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) and can pass strict emissions control there – and can be registered in that state.

Other modifications include black, leather and electrically operated seats from an unnamed Porsche car; The original gray leatherette front and rear seats get the new owner to the car. And also a garden on the roof or more durable shock absorbers and steering from the Old Man Emu brand.

Auction house Bonhams, who sells the car, estimates the final price between 1.6 and 2.7 million crowns, with the auction being without a minimum price. It will take place on August 13 this year in Monterey, California.
