Tom Hanks paid for world famous race scene in Forrest Gump himself | NOW

Actor Tom Hanks and director Robert Zemeckis have several scenes of the movie in 1994 Forrest Gump self-financed. Hanks reveals this on Thursday in a podcast of the American television program In Depth with Graham Bensinger.

The comedy was in danger of not appearing in 1994 because the film production company Paramount did not get a budget for several scenes, including the world-famous run scene of the lead character Forrest Gump, which is played by Hanks.

“Zemeckis then said: this scene is going to cost this. ‘Okay,’ I replied,” said Hanks. “He said, ‘You and I are going to split that amount, and we’ll give it back to Paramount.’ But Paramount had to share the profit a bit more.

Paramount agreed to Hanks and Zemeckis’s proposal. “And that turned out to be good for us,” said Hanks, who later also covered insurance when Paramount didn’t get it for a shooting scene.

Forrest Gump raised more than 500 million euros and received 13 Oscar nominations, six of which it won, including best picture. Hanks received the Best Actor Oscar in 1995 for his performance in the film. According to The Hollywood Reporter Hanks was left with more than 55 million euros Forrest Gump.
