The Bad Tölz forestry operation of the Bavarian State Forests is closing the Vorderriß-Wallgau toll road for six weeks. The reason for this is extensive repair work. Among other things, a slope must be stabilized to secure the road.

Vorderriß/Wallgau – Work starts next Monday, October 28th. The road is expected to remain closed until Monday, December 9th. “We tried to do it out of season if possible,” says Tölz forestry manager Robert Krebs when asked. Now there aren’t quite as many hikers on the trail, and there’s still no support for ski tourers. Other excursion traffic is also likely to be limited in November compared to the beautiful summer months.

The diversion takes you via the Jachenau and the south bank of Walchensee

For commuters who use the route, just like everyone else, there is only a major detour. The alternative route leads via state road 2072 to Jachenau and the forestry company’s toll road on the south bank of Walchensee. “Anyone who has an annual pass for the Vorderriß toll road can also use it at Walchensee during the construction phase,” promises Krebs. There is also good news for cyclists and hikers: “You can still use the Isaruferweg south of the Isar,” writes district manager Ludwig Kast in a press release.

Slope must be rebuilt from below

Closing the road is unavoidable, emphasizes the forestry manager. The main problem point lies in a relatively sharp curve. “We have deposits in the slope there,” explains Krebs. “The slope has to be built up from below so that the road is safe again.” So-called “reinforced earth”, a support system that ensures stability, is installed. “It’s technically complex and takes time,” says Krebs. And the whole thing also has its price. The forestry company is investing a six-figure amount in the renovation.

The road closure will then be used for further work. In the area of the bridge at Sausenden Graben, for example, the road surface needs to be renewed, says Krebs. Wood is also made along the road during this period.

Electronic boards indicate closures

The diversion will be widely signposted for road users. The electronic display boards that the State Building Authority put into operation this year on the B13 in Bad Tölz and near the Lenggrieser Bretonenbrücke (we reported) will also indicate the closure.

The forestry company is responsible not only for the Vorderriß toll road, but also for the one on the south bank of Walchensee. Here Krebs announces: “Next spring there will be work on Walchensee.” Here the surface layer has to be milled off and re-asphalted. A full closure is also necessary for this. Krebs: “But that’s faster than it is now in Vorderriß.”
