Toll Cards Will Be Completely Removed in 2024

KOMPAS.com – The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) will fully implement a contactless cashless transaction system or services using the Multi Lane Free Flow (Multi Lane Free Flow) system.MLFF) as a replacement toll card in 2024.

“In terms of the agreement, full implementation will be carried out in 2024,” said Head of BPJT Danang Parikesit quoted from Between, Saturday (21/5/2022).

According to Danang, this process must have transitions such as reductions toll gates and so on which will be carried out in stages.

The application of this contactless cashless technology is not something that will immediately change, because BPJT will also look at the readiness of the technology, the readiness and response of consumers, and the readiness of law enforcement.

“So we will do everything gradually with our ability to adapt to this new technology,” said Danang.

BPJT itself is currently planning to conduct a trial of the transaction system this year, which will be implemented by PT Roatex Indonesia Toll System (RITS) as a Toll Transaction System Implementing Business Entity.

“By timeline we expect to start the MLFF trial process this year. We hope that if there are no technical obstacles, according to the agreement, implementation efforts will be carried out in stages, depending on the results of trials that will be carried out by RITS as a Toll Transaction System Implementing Business Entity,” said Danang.

Previously, the Ministry of PUPR through the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) targeted the non-cash and contactless transactions on toll roads to be implemented gradually in several toll road sections by the end of this year.

For the initial stage of implementation, it begins with a transition period on several toll roads, where some of the substations at each toll gate can still use an electronic toll card.

Head of BPJT Danang Parikesit said that its implementation is planned for the end of 2022, while for toll roads the system will be implemented at the end of the year is still under discussion.
