Tolima defeats Equidad and will play the final of the Colombian league with Millonarios :: Latinxtoday :: Sports

Bogotá, Jun 14 (EFE) .- Deportes Tolima defeated La Equidad in Bogotá on Monday 1-2 in the second leg of the semifinals and qualified for the final of the Colombian league, in which they will face Millonarios who eliminated Sunday to Junior.

The Ibagué team, led by Hernán Torres, was superior to its rival at the Techo stadium in Bogotá and took the series, after having equaled 1-1 at home, with scores from winger Andrey Estupiñán and central Sergio Mosquera, from penalty, while the scorer Diego Herazo scored the discount for the capital.

In a match that was played under a heavy downpour, the visitors went out to seek victory from the beginning under the leadership of midfielder Juan David Ríos, who stole many balls in the middle of the field and started several of his team’s attacks.

The first goal came at minute 16 with a great play by Estupiñán, who deceived goalkeeper Cristian Bonilla when he had the ball on his left side and, instead of sending a cross, he decided to finish off and managed to send the ball to the back of the net.

Tolima continued to attack and hit the post with a shot from Venezuelan Yohandry Orozco at 23 against an opponent who, despite being eliminated, did not react and was still under the dominance of Torres.

In the complementary stage, the Bogotanos reacted and launched the attack under the leadership of Daniel Mantilla, but that was taken advantage of by Vinotinto and Oro to damage the counterattack.

This was how the 0-2 came about when goalkeeper Bonilla, in a clumsy play, knocked down Estupiñán in the area and then Mosquera, with a right hand, overcame the goalkeeper’s resistance to the minute.

When Tolima seemed to be close to scoring the 0-3, La Equidad discounted a penalty after full-back Nilson Castrillón touched the ball with his hand in the area.

The charge was in charge of Herazo, who reached eleven goals in the championship and shares the scoring lead with Jefferson Duque, from Atlético Nacional, and Fernando Uribe, from Millonarios.

In the end, Equidad totally turned to the attack, but his side Amaury Torralvo was sent off for attacking Juan Fernando Caicedo, one of the figures of the match, and with this he extinguished the illusion of his team.

The Bogota club could not equalize against Tolima who, although he suffered, achieved the goal of returning to the final of the Colombian league after three years without doing so.

Meanwhile, Millonarios beat Junior 2-0 with a double from Uribe on Sunday in the second leg of the semifinal of the Apertura Tournament in Colombia and thus recovered from 3-2 in the first leg.
