Tokyo Regional Minimum Wage for 2023 to Increase by 41 Yen: Highest Increase Since 2002

On the 7th, the Tokyo Regional Minimum Wage Council (Chairman Yasushi Tsuru) reported to Hiroshi Tsujita, director of the Tokyo Labor Bureau, that the minimum wage in Tokyo in 2023 should be raised by 41 yen from 1,072 yen per hour to 1,113 yen.

According to the bureau, both the amount of the increase and the rate of increase (3.82%) were the largest increases since the introduction of the current system in FY2002. If there are no objections from workers or employers, it will apply from October 1st.

At the end of July, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare’s Central Minimum Wage Council reported that the national average hourly wage would increase by 41 yen from the current 961 yen to 1,002 yen, reflecting the soaring prices, and would exceed 1,000 yen for the first time.

In the Tokyo metropolitan area, Kanagawa and Saitama prefectures each increased their hourly wages by 41 yen, Kanagawa’s hourly wage was 1,112 yen (3.83% increase), Saitama’s hourly wage was 1,028 yen (4.15% increase), and Chiba prefecture’s hourly wage was increased by 42 yen. , to 1,026 yen (4.27% of the previous year).
