Tuesday, August 24, 2021, Tokyo Paralympic Games will begin, two weeks after the end of the Olympic Games. And while the athletes from Seine-Saint-Denis shone during the first part of the Games by bringing back nine medals, out of the 33 won by the French delegation, the department will again be represented with no less than nine Paralympic athletes.
Here are the nine Sequano-Dionysian athletes to follow until September 5, 2021:
Para-athletics:
- Timothy Adolphe (Saint-Denis Emotion): European and world champion in the 400 meters and vice-world champion in the 100 meters, nicknamed the “white cheetah”, he will aim for gold over his two distances in the T11 category (visual impairment almost total). He will be accompanied by his guide, Jeffrey Lami.
- Charles Antoine Kouakou (Sport Toi Bien 93): World champion in the 200m in 2017, the sprinter hopes to shine in the 400m at the Tokyo Games. He is also a member of the “Sport Toi Bien 93” association, aimed at people with mental or psychic disabilities.
To-dressage:
Chiara Zenati (Center équestre pony Club UCPA la Courneuve): barely 18 years old, her rise has been meteoric since her first podiums during her international debut and her two French championship titles. She will take part in her first Olympics with Swing Royal, her horse and is aiming for the gold medal.
Para-taekwondo:
Bopha Kong (CKF Bondy) : undefeated in 2018 with six international tournaments won, triple world champion and triple European champion, Bopha Kong leaves for Tokyo with the desire for the Olympic title despite his 37 springs. Legend of his sport, he will compete in the under 61kg category in K43 (coordination on one side of the body is limited to a low degree, to a high degree of one arm or one foot and one ankle , or the absence of part of the arms).
Blind football:
- The french team has qualified but its final composition has not yet been decided. Nevertheless, Martin baron, Gaël River (Bondy Cécifoot), Hakim Arezki(president of the handisport committee 93) and Yvan Wouandji (Rosny), all four London Games silver medalists, are in the squad.
Armchair rugby:
Cédric Nankin (Capsaaa Paris): native of Saint-Denis, the pillar of the French wheelchair rugby team will participate in his second Olympiad. An outstanding defender, he will be keen with the Blues to do better than in Rio where they came seventh before a bronze medal at the 2017 European Championship.
