Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva won their second victory at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Indonesia’s mixed doubles badminton beat Denmark’s opponent in a straight game.
Playing at Musashino Forest Sport Plaza, Sunday (25/7/2021), Praveen/Melati, who became the fourth seed of the tournament, faced fierce resistance from Mathias Christiansen/Alexandra Boje. Since the first game, the Indonesian representatives were forced to work hard.
Had been leading 11-4 in the first game interval, the Danish pair could catch up. They can force the score 21-21. Praveen / Melati finally managed to finish the first game with a 24-22 victory.
In the second game, a fierce match was presented again. Mathias/Alexandra gaspol was substituted from the start, but Praveen/Melati could balance. At the break, Indonesia could lead 11-9.
After the break, Denmark had time to catch up and turn things around to 18-15. However, Praveen / Coaching performed well in the remaining matches, and finished the match with a 21-19 victory.
This is Praveen/Melati’s second win in Group C badminton at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Previously, they had defeated the Australian pair, Simon Wing Hang Leung/Gronya Somerville with a rubber victory 20-22, 21-17, 21-13.
This victory makes Praveen / Melati a chance to qualify for the quarterfinals. Next, Praveen/Melati just have to face the vice hosts, Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino, Monday (26/7).
