Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games: who are the athletes of Seine-Saint-Denis?

This Friday July 23, 2021, the Tokyo Olympics start (finally) with the opening ceremony. A special Olympiad since without an audience, while football and softball opened the way for sporting events. The French delegation, made up of 378 athletes for the Olympic Games (23 July – 8 August), hopes to obtain around forty medals and the athletes of Seine-Saint-Denis are not left out.

Here is the list of 28 athletes of Seine-Saint-Denis who take part in the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games:

Judo :

• Madeleine Malonga (Etoile Sport du Blanc-Mesnil): world champion in 2019 in the under 78kg category and vice-world champion in 2021, the current world number one is one of the big favorites for gold.
• Margaux Pinot (Etoile Sport du Blanc-Mesnil): double European champion in the under 70kg category and world number two, judokate represents a great chance for a medal.

Table tennis :

• Alexandre cassin (Saint-Denis Union Sport 93): after having performed in the youth categories by winning the European junior championships in 2016, he now hopes to shine among the seniors.

• Prithika Pavade (Saint-Denis Union Sport 93): the youngest of the French Olympic team, aged only 16, and multi-titled this year among the pros with the SDUS 93 (French champion, European champion), will have to be rubbing against the best in the world to hope for a podium. A difficult task but not impossible for the Dionysian prodigy.

Greco-Roman wrestling :

• Koumba Larroque (Bagnolet Lutte 93): at 22 she crushed the competition among young people, reigning European champion and vice world champion in 2018, we can only hope that she continues her momentum among seniors.
• Mathilde Riviere (Bagnolet Lutte 93): because of a serious back injury, she will only participate in her first Olympics at the age of 31. Bronze medalist at the European Championship in 2017 in the under 57 kg category, this hospital worker is hungry for medals.

Athletics :

• Orlann Ombissa Dzangue (CA Montreuil 93): after taking a break from her sporting career, she is back. A 100-meter specialist, she will participate in the 4 * 100m relay three years after having achieved her best time: 11.06 seconds. She will be alongside Carolle Zahi.
• Carolle Zahi (CA Montreuil 93): six times French sprint champion, 60m, 100m and 200m runner, the sprinter naturalized in 2015 will participate in her first Olympics. Very fit in 2019 with four international titles, she will compete in the 4 * 100m relay.
• Benjamin Compaore (CA Montreuil 93): European champion in 2014, the experienced triple jumper will be keen to bounce back during this Olympiad after finishing 10th at the Rio Olympics in 2016.
• Ludovic Ouceni (Pierrefitte Sports Multiathlon): after the experience, make way for youth with this 20-year-old athlete selected for the 4x400m relay. He will play his very first Games.

Rugby 7:

• Anne-Cécile Ciofani (AC Bobigny rugby 93): from a family of Olympic sportsmen, the young player will be keen to follow in her parents’ footsteps (Los Angeles 1984 for her father, Seoul 1988 for her mother). Former heptathlete, her speed makes opposing teams tremble. The French team will also be among the favorites after becoming vice-world champion in 2018. Anne-Cécile Ciofani was elected best player of the tournament and will start in Tokyo.
• Nassira Kondé (AC Bobigny Rugby 93): trained in Bobigny, this 21-year-old center and wing will be reservists for the Olympic tournament. An evolution in the continuity of his first participation with the French rugby union team in the Six Nations tournament in 2020.
• Joanna Grisez (AC Bobigny Rugby 93): also a member of the Louves, the nickname of the players of Bobigny, this 24-year-old rugby specialist will also be a reservist for the Olympic tournament.

Basket-ball :

• Diandra Tchatchouang (La Courneuve club): at 30, native of Villepinte, the 1.89m wing is a pillar of the French basketball team. She will wear the number 93 for her first Olympics and will aim for the podium after the beautiful fourth place for Les Bleues in Rio in 2016.

Handball :

• Kalidiatou Niakaté (CMA Aubervilliers): After eight years at the Aubervilliers club, Kalidiatou Niakaté joined the France pole then the national junior team with which she scored 27 goals at the world junior championship in 2014. European champion and world champion, she will experience its first Olympics.

Football :

• Modibo Sagnan (Villetaneuse club): Born in Saint-Denis, he played at the Villetaneuse club from 2009 to 2012, before joining the RC Lens training center until 2018. He is currently playing as a central defender at Real Sociedad with which he won the Spanish Cup. He will play his first Olympics.

Fencing:

• Anita Blaze (Aubervilliers Escrime club): foil holds no secrets for the 2013 vice-world champion who will compete in the individual and team events. After missing the Rio Games in 2016 because of an injury, she will be full of ambition for the Tokyo edition.

Trampoline :

• Allan Morante (La Dyonisienne trampoline): the one who appears in the top 10 of the best trampolinists in the world will start the competition in great shape after winning a world cup event. At the foot of the 2017 Worlds podium and bronze medalist at the 2018 European Championship, he has every chance of winning a medal.

Track cycling:

• Valentine Fortin (St Michel Auber93): at 22, Valentine Fortin will experience her first Olympics. This teammate (type of runner whose main objective is to help the team leader) from the Aubervilliers club will be engaged in the track pursuit event.

Para-athletics:

• Timothy Adolphe (Saint-Denis Emotion): European and world champion in the 400 meters and vice-world champion in the 100 meters, nicknamed the “white cheetah”, he will aim for gold over his two distances in the T11 category (visual impairment almost total).
• Charles Antoine Kouakou (Sport Toi Bien 93): World champion in the 200m in 2017, the sprinter hopes to shine in the 400m at the Tokyo Games. He is also a member of the “Sport Toi Bien 93” association, aimed at people with mental or psychic disabilities.

To-dressage:

Chiara Zenati (Club UCPA la Courneuve pony equestrian center): barely 18 years old, her rise has been meteoric since her first podiums during her international debut and her two French championship titles. She will take part in her first Olympics with Swing Royal, her horse and is aiming for the gold medal.

Para-taekwondo:

Bopha Kong (CKF Bondy) : undefeated in 2018 with six international tournaments won, triple world champion and triple European champion, Bopha Kong leaves for Tokyo with the desire for the Olympic title despite his 37 springs. Legend of his sport, he will compete in the under 61kg category in K43 (coordination on one side of the body is limited to a low degree, to a high degree of one arm or one foot and one ankle , or the absence of part of the arms).

Blind football:

• The french team has qualified but its final composition has not yet been decided. However, Martin baron, Gaël River (Bondy Cécifoot), Hakim Arezki (president of the handisport committee 93) and Yvan Wouandji (Rosny), all four London Games silver medalists, are in the squad.

Armchair rugby:

Cédric Nankin (Capsaaa Paris): native of Saint-Denis, the pillar of the French wheelchair rugby team will participate in his second Olympiad. An outstanding defender, he will be keen with the Blues to do better than in Rio where they came seventh before a bronze medal at the 2017 European Championship.
