Tourist Event in Tokyo Showcases Korean Culture and Idol Singers
In the heart of Tokyo, Japan, a special tourist event was held to immerse visitors in the vibrant culture of Seoul, South Korea. The event featured performances by popular Korean idol singers and various experiences that showcased the latest trends in Seoul.
More than 1,500 people participated in the event in a single day, and the response was overwhelmingly enthusiastic. Correspondent Cha Yoo-jeong reports from the local area.
One of the highlights of the event was the “Holy Water Booth,” which recreated a beauty shop from the streets of Seongsu-dong, Seoul. Visitors had the opportunity to get their makeup done like a Korean celebrity, and the results were truly amazing. A 40-year-old Japanese visitor named Aki expressed her surprise at the transformation, stating, “I often use Korean cosmetics, but experiencing it today, the change before and after was so significant. It was great.”
Other booths at the event included the “Gangnam Booth,” where visitors could take instant photos popular in Korea, and the “Euljiro Booth,” where they could listen to the sounds of fried chicken and grilled pork belly, immersing themselves in the experience of Korean cuisine. Sakura, a Japanese woman in her 20s, shared her excitement, saying, “I already love Korean food, but after hearing the sounds, I want to eat Korean food even more.”
The booths set up in the middle of Tokyo provided a unique opportunity for young Japanese people to experience Seoul’s newest lifestyle. The highlight of the event, of course, was the stage performances by a Korean idol group. Fans who had been waiting in line since the day before showed their special affection for Seoul, the birthplace of their beloved “oppas.”
Last year, 300,000 Japanese tourists visited Korea. While this is a sign of recovery, it is still a small number compared to pre-pandemic levels. Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon acknowledged the discrepancy, stating, “The number of Japanese tourists coming to Korea is about three times smaller than the number of Korean tourists visiting Japan. We are determined to make efforts to at least attract as many tourists from Japan as we send.”
To revitalize tourism in Seoul, the Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to focus on attracting Japanese visitors in their 20s and 30s who are passionate about K-pop and K-beauty. By targeting this demographic, they hope to make a breakthrough and increase the number of Japanese tourists visiting Seoul.

How did the K-pop dance workshop contribute to the overall immersive experience of the event
R named Hiroshi Suzuki shared, “I’ve always admired Korean beauty trends, so getting my makeup done like a K-pop star was a dream come true. The staff here were so skilled and made me look and feel fantastic.”
In addition to the beauty booth, there were also various food stalls offering traditional Korean dishes such as bibimbap, tteokbokki, and kimchi. Many visitors indulged in these delicious treats, immersing themselves further in the Korean culture.
Another popular attraction at the event was the K-pop dance workshop. Korean idol group members taught participants some of their iconic dance moves, allowing them to experience the energy and passion of K-pop firsthand. A young college student from Australia, Sarah Johnson, exclaimed, “I’ve always been a fan of K-pop, and being able to learn the choreography from my favorite songs was a dream come true. This experience has made my trip to Tokyo truly unforgettable.”
To conclude the event, several popular K-pop idol groups performed live on stage, dazzling the audience with their dynamic performances and charismatic personalities. The energetic atmosphere created by the idol singers had everyone in the crowd dancing and singing along.
