The leader of the world ranking, who won the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon earlier this season, lost the chance for the so-called Golden Slam. It consists of victories in four Grand Slam tournaments and the Olympics. To complete it, the tennis player from Belgrade missed the triumphs in Tokyo and the US Open, which will be held in New York at the turn of August and September.
The only tennis player in the history of tennis to have five wins in these events in one season was German Steffi Graf in 1988.
The defeat to seed with Zverev was only the fourth Djokovic this season.
The German will play against Karen Khachanov from the Russian Olympic Committee in the final on Sunday.
