Australia, after losing in the debut to the hosts of Japan, reacted on Thursday in the softball of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with a 1-0 victory against Italy.
Kaia Parnaby pitched six 2/3 scoreless innings, spawning four hits and striking out two, and Jade Wall drove in the only run of the game at Fukushima. Parnaby won (1-1) and Ellen Roberts saved with the last out to neutralize a dangerous Italian attempt.
The ‘Aussies’ had fallen 8-1 on Wednesday to the hosts, winners of the gold medal in the last Olympic edition that had had softball among the official sports, Beijing-2008.
The Australian team’s score came in the second act.
Taylah Tsitsikronis doubled into the left meadow and advanced on a Tarni Stepto grounder to third pad, from which he scored on Wall’s infieldhit.
