Although she did not reach the medal, she will be able to at least partially compensate for the disappointment from the sports part of the Olympics with her functional success. The 36-year-old shooter aspires to be re-elected to the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Athletes’ Commission. They will vote like traditional Olympians from all over the world.

Nine years ago during the London Olympics, Danka Barteková won the election to the IOC Athletes’ Commission and a year later she was also elected to the IOC. She has established herself there in eight years, and thanks to the trust of IOC President Thomas Bach, who has nominated her to several IOC commissions, she has become one of the busiest members of the most influential sports organization in the world. It is understandable that she would like to continue working successfully. However, he must succeed in the Tokyo elections.

“I have after the race, so now I can fully focus on the election campaign in the Olympic Village. I wonder how it will turn out. Almost nothing is allowed in the campaign, I’ll just talk to the athletes and try to get as many votes as possible. I firmly believe “Athletes will reflect on my work for their benefit over the last nine years. I can only hope that they will be willing to give me their vote.” said Danka Barteková after the end of the Olympic competition in sketches on the website of SOŠV olympic.sk.

Danka Barteková is the only one of the four who succeeded in the elections to the IOC Athletes’ Commission during the London Olympics. She enters the election as Vice-Chairwoman of the Commission. She was elected to this position during the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyongyang.

Directly in Tokyo, they are elected at the entrance to the Olympic Village dining room, but voters who live in other game venues outside the Japanese capital can also exercise their right to vote. Anyone who exercises this right will receive a cap with the Athlete 365 logo, a platform used by the IOC Athletes’ Commission to communicate with athletes from around the world, but also to disseminate important information, advice to athletes and awareness of the various options available. they offer them.

The elections to the IOC Athletes’ Commission began on the day of the official opening of the Olympic Village in Tokyo (July 13) and will last until August 3, ie exactly three weeks. The election results will be announced on August 4. As a candidate in the elections, Danka Barteková can stay in the Olympic Village until then, otherwise she would have to leave her within 48 hours after the end of the competition. The same goes for all candidates as long as they compete in the Tokyo Games.

The list of candidates for the IOC Athletes Commission in the Tokyo elections includes 20 men and 10 women from a total of 19 summer sports, including several big names such as Swedish swimmer Therese Alshammar, Qatari highlander Mutaz Aissa Barshim, Spanish basketball player Pau Gasol and Italian swimmer Federica Pellegrini. There can be only one candidate from one country, four athletes from four different sports will be elected. Each voting athlete may indicate the name of only one candidate from the same sport on his / her ballot.

The IOC Athletes’ Commission may have a maximum of 23 members with a term of office of 8 years, 12 of whom are directly elected by the Olympians (8 for summer and 4 for winter sports) and a maximum of 11 may be appointed by the IOC President. From the ranks of the elected dozen, the Athletes’ Commission elects its own chairman and vice-chairman. The commission has the right to up to 15 representatives in the IOC plenary, as well as national Olympic committees and international sports federations.
