Tokayev reported to the CSTO on the situation in the country

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev called the latest events in the country an attempt at a coup d’etat. He made such a statement during a meeting of the CSTO leaders on Monday, January 10, writes TASS.

According to him, preparations for the riots in Kazakhstan went on for a long time, and the wave of mass riots emerged “as if by a single command.”

Tokayev said that the bandit formations in Kazakhstan were trying to take possession of weapons and military equipment.

According to the latest data, 16 law enforcement officers were killed in Kazakhstan, the number of civilian casualties is being specified.

Tokayev also said about the direct participation of terrorists in the riots, including foreign fighters, terrorists in Kazakhstan acted with particular cruelty, two soldiers were beheaded. He promised later to provide evidence of the preparation of terrorist aggression.

At the same time, Tokayev assured that the constitutional order in Kazakhstan has been restored.

“For several days in January, Kazakhstan has gone through a large-scale crisis. It has become the most difficult in the entire thirty-year history of independence,” Tokayev said.

According to him, political demands in Kazakhstan were heard and fulfilled.

Tokayev said that in Kazakhstan, armed forces have never been used and will not be used against peaceful demonstrators.

In addition, he noted the actions of the CSTO – the mission in Kazakhstan has become useful. During the CSTO meeting, Tokayev proposed to optimize the timing of responding to crisis situations.

Tokayev thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for the prompt resolution of the issue of sending a CSTO peacekeeping contingent to the republic. He also thanked the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan for the prompt work on the coordination of the necessary documents.

We will remind, in Kazakhstan during the protests killed at least 164 people, including two children. Most of the dead are in Almaty. Near 6 thousand people were detained.
