President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Tuesday, January 11, appointed Alikhan Smailov as the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan. This was reported by the press service of the head of state.

“To appoint Smailov Alikhan Askhanovich the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan,” the document says.

Earlier, the lower house of parliament approved his candidacy. Tokayev speaking in the Mazhilis (lower house of parliament) via video communication, he invited the deputies to consider Smailov’s candidacy for the post of head of government.

Smailov is 49 years old and has been holding the post of First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan since May 2020. Prior to that, he was the first deputy prime minister – minister of finance, in different years he held the positions of minister of finance, assistant to the president of Kazakhstan.

According to the legislation, the Prime Minister submits proposals on the structure and composition of the new government to the President within ten days after his appointment. At the meetings of the committees of the lower house of parliament, deputies must agree on the candidacies of a number of specialized ministers.

As reported, on January 5, against the backdrop of gathering momentum of protests Tokayev accepted the resignation of the previous government under the leadership of Askar Mamin. Since then, ministers have continued to work in the status of acting until the appointment of a new cabinet of ministers. And about.
