The Tokai region will experience cold rain this Saturday and Sunday, followed by heavy rain on Sunday. Intense cold air will move in next week, and there is a risk of heavy snow in the mountainous areas of Gifu Prefecture from the 24th (Wednesday) to the 25th (Thursday). There is a possibility of snow in plain areas such as Nagoya City, so please pay attention to the latest snowfall information.

[Weather on Saturday 20th]

*The 24-hour forecast cumulative snowfall amount represents the amount of snow that will fall. The amount of snow that will accumulate will be less than this.

Today, the 19th (Friday), the Tokai region has returned to sunny skies in many places. However, this sunny spell will not last long, and the sky is expected to be cloudy again tonight. From late tonight, it will start to rain in some places in southern Mie Prefecture due to the moist air.

Tomorrow, the 20th (Saturday), the front will extend to the southern coast of Honshu and humid air will enter the Tokai region, so it is likely to be rainy on and off. Since the temperature is not so low, most places will experience rain, and snow will likely occur in higher altitude areas, such as northern Hida in Gifu Prefecture and around Mt. Fuji. However, there are places around Mt. Fuji that don’t usually get much snow, so heavy snowfall can occur in some places, so if you’re going through mountain passes, be sure to check the road conditions. In Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, there will be wet snow and sleet at first, but it will gradually change to rain.
The temperature will not rise during the day, and the highest temperature will be around 10℃ in many places, even in the plains, so it looks like it will be a cold and rainy day. Please stay warm.

[Weather on the 21st (Sunday)]

On the 21st (Sunday), a south coast low pressure system is expected to pass along the coast of the Tokai region. Rain clouds will form from the front and low pressure system, and the rain will continue from mid-afternoon to early evening. Temperatures are also expected to be warmer than Saturday as warm air gradually moves in as the low pressure system approaches. As a result, many places that will see snow on Saturday will turn to sleet or rain on Sunday. At this time of year, the amount of rainfall is concentrated, and it will be raining heavily on Sunday, so it’s a good idea to bring a large umbrella with you when you go out.
At night, the south coast low pressure system will move away from the Tokai region, so the skies will return to normal.

The winter pattern will continue next week, with the coldest weather of the season expected to snow in Nagoya as well.

By the end of the week, on the 22nd (Monday), it will be mostly sunny and warm like spring. However, on the 23rd (Tuesday), the atmospheric pressure pattern will change to a strong winter-like pattern, and the strongest cold air of the season is expected to flow in. The mountainous areas of Gifu Prefecture will continue to have cloudy and snowy days, and there is a risk of heavy snow with a peak period from the 24th (Wednesday) to the 25th (Thursday). In some places, this will be the heaviest snow of the season. There is also a high possibility of snow falling in the plains of the Tokai region, such as Gifu City and Nagoya City. There is a possibility of snow accumulation, so be sure to check the latest snowfall information. Since this is an area that doesn’t usually get much snow, be sure to take precautions early. Next week will be a prolonged period of severe cold, so please take proper measures to protect yourself from the cold.

Preparation of snow removal and cold protection goods

If snow is expected, prepare the following snow removal and cold protection items early.

① Please check snow removal equipment such as snow melting agents and shovels. If you try to prepare it last minute, you may not be able to get it.
② Electric or gas heating may become unavailable. Be sure to have cold weather items such as warmers, hot water bottles, and kerosene stoves ready.
③ It is a good idea to have a battery-powered radio or mobile battery so that you can get information even during a power outage.
④ Water supply may freeze due to low temperatures. Store water in your bathtub to prevent water from freezing, stock up on drinking water, and use water for everyday use.

Please check the expiry date and expiration date of goods regularly and be prepared for snowfall.
