Businessman Toivo “Topi” Sukari turns 70 in April, and he plans to celebrate the milestone in style. He organizes the Toivon Talkoot charity concert, which is televised live by the Nelonen channel.

The concert will be organized on April 13 in Lempäälä Ideapark, and it will collect donations for children’s and youth’s mental health work.

Sukari himself is not going to skimp, but will put 70,000 euros into his bottom fund.

– I’m doing this for a good cause. I don’t want to flaunt my money. This matter comes from the heart and that I want to help, Toivo Sukari tells Iltalehte.

– I could have gone on a trip around the world or had a big party, but I don’t want to organize any other parties. It is a matter that affects the whole of Finland that the problems of young people and children have increased enormously.

The businessman hopes that the concert will help those whose life path is still at the beginning.

– Children and young people are the future of Finland. Their mental malaise has increased in recent years, which is palpable. It comes from social media and cell phone addiction. “Many fall off the bandwagon of society, drop out of school, and don’t get their first job,” he analysed.

– I myself have had a mediocre school average and have a background of being bullied at school. I’ve been beaten to the ground by the teacher that “Top will never become a man”, when they say I couldn’t even continue my father’s work. Certainly my own experience affects this.

He dreams of a pot of up to one million euros as the total donation of the charity concert.

– That big money comes from ordinary people. I hope that the people will start to give. We older people realize how big a deal this is.

“Artists are wanted”

In Lempäälä Ideapark, you can find the organization responsible for organizing the concert and the appropriate facilities. The Bläk Boks event arena has been used for concerts and sports events: the large concert hall can hold a couple of thousand people.

Sukari says that they are currently mapping out the performers for the concert.

However, he does not assume that the artists would come to perform for free.

– I’m not necessarily asking anyone for free, but the price could be that the compensation would be reasonable, he reflects.

– We have an organization that runs events in Ideapark. This entire concert would have been almost impossible to realize without these facilities, says Sukari.
