TOHO acquires shares in the Makoto Shinkai film studio

THAT gave recently knownthat it has acquired 6.09% of the shares of CoMix Wave Films, the anime studio behind Makoto Shinkai‘s films. We summarize.

Further expansion

The media company TOHO has acquired a total of 45 shares in the anime management, production and distribution company CoMix Wave Films in order to now hold a total stake of 6.09% in the company. This investment is intended to upgrade the studio’s working environment in order to expand the quality and creative possibilities.

TOHO has been working closely with the popular director Makoto Shinkai since 2013 and was responsible for the distribution of “The Garden of Words”, “Your Name”, “Weathering With You” and “Suzume” as well as the production at CoMix Wave Films took place.

TOHO is thus impressively continuing its previous expansion, which began in 2022 with the takeover of the TIA studio, which now bears the name TOHO Animation STUDIO.

The Science SARU studio followed in June 2024 and the full one a few days ago takeover of North American animation distribution GKIDSwhose portfolio includes several films from Studio Ghibli, Studio Trigger (“Promare”), Makoto Shinkai and Mamoru Hosoda (“BELLE”).
