Lomé (© 2023 Afriquinfos) – Known for its very precarious or even non-existent health infrastructure, Togo has just taken a step. The country now has a reference hospital complex called: Dogta-Lafiè. Located north of Lomé, in the prefecture of Agoè-Nyiévé, the hospital infrastructure was inaugurated this Wednesday, April 26, 2023 (eve of Togo’s independence), by the Head of State Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé.
Thanks to its high-end equipment, the reference hospital should ‘‘serve a large segment of the population, and drain, because of its advantageous pricing and its healthcare offer, a new population that previously did not turn to hospitals’’.
‘‘The construction of the Dogta-Lafiè hospital, inaugurated today, responds to our ambition expressed in the national health policy, which aims to develop an efficient, equitable and accessible system for all, in particular the most vulnerable.” wrote the Togolese head of state, Faure Gnassingbé in a tweet.
Construction work on the hospital started in 2019 and was completed with an estimated completion rate of 100% and more.
Operational since March 1, 2023 in terms of patient care, particularly in imaging, radiography and mammography, the hospital should see its other departments become operational in the coming weeks.
At a cost of 15,000,000,000 FCFA, this project to establish a specialized hospital of the latest generation is supported by the National Social Security Fund. It aims to make surgical care, which is often complex in this country, financially and geographically accessible.
The Togolese Minister of Health Prof. Moustapha Mijiyawa described the international referral hospital as “a health wonderfor Togo.
Equipped with a level 4 technical platform, it is made up of eight (08) blocks including a VIP pavilion and a coffee area for accompanying persons. It has 22 consultation rooms, 160 beds and places including suites, top-of-the-range rooms, single rooms, double rooms and day hospital places. This is the block medical imaging and dental care; the medicine block, the administrative block, the surgery block, the woman-mother-child block, the VIP block with its coffee area for accompanying persons, the laboratory block and the logistics block. As far as services and equipment are concerned, the Dogta Lafie hospital has a state-of-the-art imaging technical platform, six (6) operating rooms, two (2) of which are hyper aseptic to international standards. The hospital is also equipped with a functional exploration unit, a modern multipurpose laboratory and a pharmacy.
The technical engineer Marc le Page reassured that the work was built according to international standards and respects the rules of hospital hygiene.
In the very short term, it is planned to set up a complete oncology unit (radiation therapy, scintigraphy, brachytherapy, chemotherapy) for the treatment and monitoring of cancerous pathologies of all types and the setting up of an ultra modern unit. dedicated to VIP hospitalizations with a capacity of 36 suites, an enlarged physiotherapy department, an ophthalmological operating theater and another surgery room.
‘‘The economic impact in jobs generated by DOGTA-LAFIE is both direct, through the creation of direct jobs by recruiters and indirect”, said Ms. Ingrid Awadé, Director General of the National Social Security Fund (CNSS).
For the operation of this reference establishment, the Hospital Management Company (SOGEHP sa) was created in January 2019 and is functional with a capital that was opened in 2022 to Togolese private investors.
