Toggenburg ski jumper Simon Ammann wants to become a local councilor in his home country – but he has not yet given up on his ski jumping skis

In the coming autumn, Toggenburg ski jumper Simon Ammann will take part in the municipal council election in Wildhaus-Alt St.Johann. The 39-year-old double double Olympic champion is cementing his reputation as an active athlete and businessman.

As is well known, Simon Ammann dances at many weddings. And now that: The ski jumper is on the list of municipal council candidates from the Wildhaus-Alt St.Johann community. The election is due on September 27, with eight candidates applying for three seats.

The news comes as a surprise, after all, the 39-year-old Toggenburger has not yet given up on his ski jumping skis. He wants to continue his ski jumping career until the Olympic Games in Beijing 2022. So while he is sporting in Japan or Russia, he now wants to help shape Wildhaus politics as a non-party.

Several projects in the old homeland

For Ammann, who turned 39 on Thursday, it is one of many projects that he is driving forward. He started studying business administration at the HSG two years ago and is also a co-owner of a roofing company in Alt St.Johann, where he acquired the Hotel Hirschen two years ago.

But that’s not all: Ammann is a hobby pilot, runs a sports management company. And he sits on the board of directors of Toggenburg Bergbahnen AG and is also involved financially. It is quite possible that he hopes to influence the unfortunate mountain railway dispute, with which his company is in a clinch with the mountain railways Wildhaus.

Ammann still lives in Schindellegi in Switzerland, but his commitment in his old homeland increasingly indicates a return. The municipality of Wildhaus-Alt St.Johann also includes underwater where Ammann grew up.
