News from the NOS

Samen voor Nederland will refrain from demonstrating in Amsterdam on Sunday. As a main reason, spokesman Mordechai Krispijn cites that British conspiracy theorist David Icke has been refused entry to the Netherlands.

He thinks people will come to protest, but he points it out Together for Holland no longer organizes anything. “Now we leave it to individual parties. It is possible that people stay at home, or that they still go to Museumplein. Or maybe Dam Square,” he tells NOS.

The demonstration became national news because Britain’s David Icke had to speak there. He is controversial because of his anti-Semitic statements and Holocaust denial and the cabinet decided yesterday to refuse him entry to the Netherlands due to the risks to public order and his own security.

The city of Amsterdam had also decided that the demonstration would be moved from Dam Square to Museumplein, for fear of riots. Samen voor Nederland had filed summary proceedings against this, but this morning the judge ruled that the municipality had acted legally.

Thunder in a clear sky

“The fact that the IND refused Icke access to our country was a bolt from the blue,” says Krispijn. “Then we said to ourselves: this is going too far. We waited today for the judge’s decision and we tried to challenge the decision of the IND, but there was too little time for that. This decision prevails over everything, showing that then it doesn’t it makes more sense. “

According to the organization, the demonstration was aimed at the cabinet. On his website, Samen voor Nederland states “that this cabinet is driving our society from one crisis to another. Enough!”
