Todt: “It’s true, I watch races with Michael”

Jean Todt says he regularly watches Formula 1 races with Michael Schumacher. The former FIA president regularly visits the German and his wife Corinna in Switzerland.

Schumacher was involved in a skiing accident in the French Alps in 2013, in which the racing legend suffered serious brain injuries. He was kept in a medical coma for a time, but in September 2014, Schumacher was transferred to his home near Lake Geneva, on the border between Switzerland and France. Here, the 53-year-old German is cared for by his wife Corinna and medical staff. Since then, Schumacher’s condition has been kept private.

Watch races together

However, Todt has regularly provided minor updates over the years. The Frenchman is good friends with Schumacher and his family and visits regularly. “I don’t miss Michael, I see him regularly,” he says into the microphone of the German RTL/ntv. “But of course what I do miss is what we used to do together.” However, one thing they still do together: “Yes, it’s true. I watch races with Michael.”

Emotional

Schumacher was recently honored in a ceremony with the State Prize of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, at which Todt was present. “If it was emotional for you, you can imagine how emotional it was for me.” “Emotionally, but at the same time I am proud to be able to talk about Michael. Michael has created a chapter. Not only in motorsport, but what he has achieved for Germany, in racing and for society, is unique.”
