A Wolverhampton family is reeling after the tragic loss of their two-year-old son, Hudson Cole Perrins, who passed away just days after being diagnosed with constipation.
Little Hudson, described by his mother as “boisterous and cheeky,” was rushed to Wolverhampton’s New Cross Hospital on June 27th after complaining of stomach pains. Tragically, he succumbed to a brain injury caused by urosepsis four days later at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, just a month shy of his third birthday.
An inquest into Hudson’s death is scheduled to begin on Thursday, and his heartbroken family is seeking answers. They are questioning why doctors initially dismissed Hudson’s symptoms as constipation.
“As a family, we just wont lessons to be learned and we don’t want any other family to go through everything that we’ve been through because it’s just devastating,” said Kayleigh Taundry, Hudson’s mother, who works at the hospital trust. “The ground’s just opened up and we’ve all just fallen into a black hole, and we don’t want this to happen again.”
Kayleigh fondly remembered her son, saying, “He was one month from turning three. he was very cheeky and boisterous, but realy loving as well. He really loved a cuddle and was really affectionate.”
Hudson had already faced a meaningful health challenge, undergoing heart surgery at seven months old to address a congenital heart defect. “We thought that would be the worst hurdle he would have to overcome,” Kayleigh shared.
“He was finally turning a corner. He was finally catching up, he was finally starting to develop alongside his peers, he was finally starting to talk and we just didn’t expect this at all,” Kayleigh said, her voice thick with emotion. “We are all still in denial. I can’t put it into words – he was a lovely boy.”
Hudson’s initial visit to the hospital on June 23rd resulted in a diagnosis of constipation. Doctors administered two suppositories and an enema before discharging him, despite the absence of a bowel movement.
The family is now left grappling with the unimaginable loss of their son and seeking answers about the events leading up to his untimely death.
A heartbroken mother is seeking answers after the tragic death of her four-year-old son, Hudson, following a visit to a UK hospital. Kayleigh, hudson’s mother, believes that medical staff at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton missed crucial signs and failed to adequately investigate his symptoms, ultimately leading to his untimely passing.
Hudson initially visited the hospital on june 26, accompanied by his father, after experiencing stomach pain and hardness. “His dad was keeping me updated, he kept texting me throughout the time he was in A&E with Hudson, but it was through the night so I was unaware until I woke up the next morning. By that time everything had already happened,” Kayleigh explained.
Kayleigh, who has a medical background, feels that Hudson’s complex medical history, which included bladder and kidney issues as well as a heart problem, should have prompted a more thorough examination. “I think I should have been notified by the hospital. I would have been able to advocate for him a bit more,” she said. “I know Hudson inside and out and, with having a medical background, I feel I could have pushed for some things, because I know what should have been done and what was available to be carried out.”
Hudson was discharged from the hospital despite not having had a bowel movement and was taken home by his father. The following day, his condition deteriorated, and he began having seizures. He was rushed back to the hospital and transferred to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, where he tragically passed away on June 27 after his parents made the heartbreaking decision to turn off his life support.
An interim death certificate lists the cause of death as a brain injury caused by urosepsis. However, Kayleigh questions the accuracy of this diagnosis, stating, “On his interim death certificate it says brain injury with a leading cause of urosepsis, but the evidence is inconsistent as to whether that was the case. We’re none the wiser. I’m hoping we get more answers from the Inquest, because at the moment we feel lost.”
Kayleigh is now seeking answers to several key questions, including why no urine sample was taken, given Hudson’s history of bladder and kidney problems, and why constipation was considered the sole cause of his symptoms without further investigation. She also questions why Hudson was discharged despite not having had a bowel movement, how a pain score of two was recorded when he was unable to communicate his pain level, and why he was not given pain relief.
Michael Portman-hann,a clinical negligence expert from law firm FBC Manby Bowdler, who is supporting the family, said: “This is a tragic case that has left the family with so many questions and concerns.”
A heartbroken family in the United Kingdom is seeking answers after the tragic death of their 14-year-old son, who tragically passed away following a severe allergic reaction. The inquest into the teenager’s death is set to begin on December 5th at the Black country Coroner’s Court, with a second hearing scheduled for December 9th.
The family, still reeling from the devastating loss, is determined to uncover the circumstances surrounding their son’s death and prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future. “We are determined to get answers and do everything we can to make sure no other family goes through this trauma,” a family member stated.
Details surrounding the teenager’s allergic reaction and the events leading up to his death have not yet been publicly released. The inquest is expected to shed light on these crucial details and provide the family with much-needed closure.
