Todd Snyder Returns to New York Fashion week with a Fresh Perspective
Menswear designer Todd Snyder is set to make his second consecutive appearance at New York Fashion Week this february, showcasing his highly anticipated fall collection. The show, scheduled for February 6 at 3:00 PM, will take place at the Academy Mansion on East 63rd Street, coinciding with New York Men’s Day, a platform for emerging designers.
This marks Snyder’s continued resurgence on the runway after a four-and-a-half-year hiatus. Last September, he made a triumphant return with an intimate, salon-style show at Le Rock restaurant in Rockefeller Center. His passion for the catwalk was reignited after being invited as a guest designer at Pitti Uomo in Florence last January, where he presented a show for 800 attendees at the historic Stazione Leopolda.
“After doing the show at Pitti a year ago, it got me into the process again and the rigor that goes with doing a show,” Snyder shared. “It’s really hard, but that’s what fashion is all about—thinking more about what inspires me and taking more risks.”
Between 2020 and 2024, Snyder shifted his focus to growing his direct-to-consumer business, which more than doubled in size during that period. This success led him to question the necessity of runway shows. “I was not thinking as creatively,” he admitted. Though, his experience at Pitti Uomo reignited his passion for fashion, prompting him to explore new creative horizons.
“It made me ponder why I got into fashion.I was not thinking as much about what will sell, but what’s next. It stretched me,” he reflected.
Snyder’s upcoming show at the Academy Mansion will be larger than his Le Rock presentation but more intimate than his Pitti Uomo spectacle, featuring 40-45 looks. The venue was chosen for its resemblance to a Parisian or new York prep school, aligning with the season’s theme inspired by school uniforms. “We’ll be able to express the collection in a way that showcases the line,” he explained. In addition to creative expression, Snyder sees runway shows as a strategic move to stay top-of-mind with retailers. while the brand currently operates on a direct-to-consumer model, Snyder anticipates expanding into wholesale within the next two years. By mid-2025, the company plans to have 25 stores nationwide.
