  • sorae – Mars, Jupiter, Saturn. An image in which the three planets are arranged according to their apparent sizes.

This is “Jupiter” “Mars” “Saturn” from the left. They are arranged in the same ratio as the apparent size observed from the earth.

At the time of photographing (October 2020), Mars was in its closest approach to the Earth, which occurs approximately every two years and two months, and its apparent diameter was about 1/80th that of the full moon.

Mars is actually about 1/20th the diameter of Jupiter, but in this image it appears to be about half the size of Jupiter. You can also see that the body of Saturn, which is about twice as far from the Sun as Jupiter, appears smaller than Mars at its closest approach.
