Today’s Phenomenon: Phenicid Meteor Shower Peak, Intensity 51-74 Meteors/Hour in Indonesia

TRIBUNNEWS.COM – The National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN) informs that there are several astronomical phenomena that will occur in December 2021.

One of them is a phenomenon Peak Rain Meteor Phoenicid.

quote edukasi.sains.lapan.go.idThe peak phenomenon of the Phoenicid Meteor Shower occurs today, Monday (6/12/2021) to Tuesday (7/12/2021).

Phoenicid Meteor Show (EIGHT)

Phenicid is a meteor shower whose radiance point is in the constellation Phoenix near the star Alfa Eridani, the constellation Eridanus.

This meteor shower is sourced from the dust remnants of Comet 289P/Blanpain which orbits the Sun for 5.18 years.

This meteor shower can be seen from the early twilight (20 minutes after sunset) until the next day at 02:15 local time from the southeast to the southwest.

The intensity of this meteor shower for Indonesia ranges from 51 meteors/hour (Sabang) to 74 meteors/hour (P.Rote).

This is because the radian point culminates at an altitude of 31 degrees to 48 degrees south, while the intensity of the meteor shower at the zenith is 100 meteors/hour.

Make sure the weather is sunny and free from obstructions or light pollution around the field of view.

This is because the intensity of this meteor shower is directly proportional to 100% minus the percentage of cloud cover and inversely proportional to the Bortle scale (a scale that indicates the level of light pollution, the larger the scale, the greater the light pollution).
