St. St. Basil, presbyter of Ankir
In the 4th century, the Arian heresy spread in the city of Ankyra. St. Basil was a zealous follower of the Orthodox faith, and for this audacity he was thrown into prison. Emperor Julian insisted that Basil renounce God, but the saint was adamant. By order of the emperor, seven thongs were peeled from the martyr’s skin every day. After a few days, St. Basil himself tore a strap from his skin and threw it in the king’s face. Humiliated, Julian left Ancyra.
