“Today we have a Hereford of good quality and adapted to our climate”

Osvaldo Osnaghi | President of the Hereford Breeders Association of Paraguay.

From the Association we are very excited about this National Livestock Expo, a sample that is totally new, because we are in a time where producers have already bought all the reproducers, but it is an opportunity to give breeders so that they can bring, show your product and offer for sale.

We are very optimistic, we believe that we will have good commercial results because thank God there are good prices at fairs. It is an opportunity that the ARP offers us to be able to offer our products to genetics buyers, which is very important to continue improving Paraguayan meat, which is very desirable abroad, and therefore continue to generate foreign exchange and sources of work.

Speaking of genetics, the first pure breed that was introduced in Paraguay was the Hereford in 1917, from there it evolved and in 1964 the Association of Hereford Breeders of Paraguay was founded. Work has been going on since that time, and today we have a very good quality Hereford adapted to our climate. It is being used a lot in the Chaco for crosses with Zebu breed animals and it makes the meat have a very good tenderness, which is to the taste of the most demanding markets such as the European Union.

At the Expo we already have the confirmation of several exhibitors and an animal with average term will be observed, with adaptation and acclimatization to our fields, docile and with females with ease in childbirth. The Hereford is a breed known worldwide and we have to go looking for animals that adapt to our climate, mainly in the Paraguayan Chaco.

Regarding the fair to be held at the Expo, there are good prospects because the price of animals for internal slaughter and export are at a good level and that is why we believe that we could have better prices than 2019.
