THE HISTORY BETWEEN ARGENTINA AND PARAGUAY

La Albiceleste and La Albirroja were head to head in 95 times. 48 of those were for Argentina, Paraguay took 15, and 32 were draws, leaving a difference of 33 in our favor. The last antecedent was for the third date of the qualifiers heading to Qatar 2022, in November of last year. The crossing at La Bombonera ended 1-1, with goals from Ángel Romero (from a penalty kick) and Nico González.

In the last four matches Against the Guarani, the Selection was left with a bitter taste. There were three draws, and one defeat (1-0 in qualifying for Russia 2018). The last Argentine victory was in the semifinals of the America’s Cup 2015, with a crushing 6-1.

HOW DOES ARGENTINA GET?

Lionel Scaloni’s team failed to win in the first match of the tournament, drawing a 1-1 draw against Chile. With Messi in the lead – providing a goal from a free kick – Argentina was superior, and deserved the three points. But the missed opportunities in attack, and defensive mistakes they took their toll: the trans-Andean players got the tie from the rebound of a penalty.

Later, the National Team beat Uruguay very well: it was 1-0 in the El Clásico with a goal from Guido Rodríguez after a very good play and a cross from Lionel Messi. The captain was the great figure of the game.

And for this game against Paraguay, the coach will make two safe changes, which could be six. Paredes will return to the starting line-up in place of the injured Lo Celso and Di María will start for the also damaged Nicolás González. In addition, the unknowns are Molina or Montiel, Acuña or Tagliafico, Palacios or De Paul / Guido Rodríguez or Palacios and Lautaro Martínez or Agüero.
